Ordered on a Thursday night after 9pm, delivered at 10am on Tuesday. Simple set up (maybe 10 minutes). Fantastic color and sound out of the box with very little adjustment needed.
Great value and great TV for the price. The only important thing to remember is if you are new to this type of TV
you need to learn to make a simple picture size adjustment on the remote for it to play non hd in full screen without distorting it. The sound is very good and there are plenty of ports to add stuff into it. I added a wii, ps3, dvd burner, cable box and computer via the hdmi and still have plenty of ports left open. All work great. I usually do not praise products but this Toshiba 37RV525R 37" LCD is really great and the shipping company Amazon used was Pilot and they were crazy fast and very nice when they delivered the set. I'd write more but I'd rather go watch my new TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought the Haier 26" TV about three months ago, and absolutely love it. I must admit, we were coming from a 15-year-old 19" TV, so this is our first flat-panel LCD TV. However, I must say I was really surprised by the great picture we've gotten with this TV. I did a lot of research, and have looked at a lot of TVs in the big box shops. This TV has nice deep blacks and vibrant colors. Just make sure you have an HDMI cable, the standard video cable inputs will give you very strange boxing of the video feed.

Though I really enjoy the TV, there are a few cons. The most major one is the lack of dynamic recognition of the incoming video type. We watch mostly DVDs, and the TV does not automatically recognize whether the video feed is widescreen or standard, so you must choose the video type each time. (This is really annoying on some DVDs as the menu or previews may be standard, while the main show is widescreen.) The TV comes with a really nifty universal remote, but the volume control ONLY works for the TV, and the control buttons don't fully match up to our DVD player (a new model Philips). Also, the TV is very slow to respond to the remote, it is also slow to turn on and off. Overall, these are minor complaints to what is a very nice TV. We really love it.

DOES NOT WORK - J. Sporer -
My Haier 22 inch tv with built in DVD does not load dvd's, therefore, will not work for my use. I like the look of this product, but it doesn't work. I sent my first one back for a brand new second TV and the second one did not work any better. Would not buy if you are intending to use it will DVD's. I'm absolutely fed up with haier and am now buying a samsung instead because it works for the same price!

After searching the web for a 26" TV from the well known Japanese and Korean brands I found that all these TV's are made in China anyway, so I figured, "Why not buy from the source?" Haier is a huge Chinese company, more known for washers, dryers, and refrigerators than electronics, but thoroughly reputable and their 26" TV was 0-0 less than the same size Japanese or Korean models. The TV arrived on time and I was pleased with the appearance... sleek and well finished. The setup was easy and I was watching in 10 minutes. The remote is not complicated and logical. The picture is superb with beautiful color rendition and good visibility from the sides. The audio is good for the small speakers. DVD hookup was easy. This is a very good TV for the money.

I am very satisified with this little TV. I was looking for something manageable in size to have on the corner of my desk in my home office and this unit has really worked out great. I have it connected to cable and the picture is respectable with standard analog cable channels, but where it really shines is on the hi-def channels. Most cable operators broadcast local hi-def channels free and clear (not scrambled) and this TV has a QAM tuner which can pick those up - and they are really sharp. For the money (its available at Sam's Club for 9), you really can't beat it.

On screen menu display TOO SMALL - milligi - Midwest, U.S.
This is just the size I needed for my kitchen counter. Very clear picture--good sound--but the onscreen "menu" display is disappointingly small. I sit 5 feet from the screen and cannot read the 1/4 inch high, medium blue letters on dark blue background. To maintain the same picture quality in order to adjust the brightness/color/etc., too much clarity lost if I remain standing in front of the screen, so when I move closer to see the display--at about 2.5 feet from the TV--I must stoop over with my nose to exact center of the screen. Just because it's a small screen (7.5 inches high) does not mean the menu display had to also be small. Even changing the letters from medium blue to yellow would have been an improvement!

Recently I bought this TV because I wanted a nice sized TV with native 1080p resolution and also getting the most bang for my buck. I must say that I am really impressed by this model. I've always been a big Sony TV fan and I originally wanted to purchase a Sony Bravia 40V2500 much like the same one that my father purchased, but after seeing this unit in action, I just had to get it. Both TV's look great and the family has some great experiences so far. but the Toshiba is slightly cheaper and offers more features and is 2" bigger.

Some of the great things about this TV are how many features you'll get compared to comparable models. The picture and color quality are amazing as at the price point that most retailers, both online and offline sell this at, I think that you get your money's worth. It also has a some great features like Picture-in-Picture and ethernet capability to stream pictures and music from your home network. It also has multiple input options for different setups and had a built in digital "box" where you just need to input a service card. The sound is also great for those who don't have the space or money to get a full home theater set up. It's nice getting a good sound experience when watching a DVD or playing a game like Gears of War.

The only real downside to this TV so far is that it only accepts full 1080p input through HDMI, which unfortunately, my XBox 360 currently does not offer an HDMI connection solution so I can only at the most play it through 1080i.

Besides the one main flaw. This is a great solution for those who have held back on getting an HDTV. Not only is it afforable, but so far, the performance has been stellar. You can't go wrong with it.

Nice display but too many problems - VMaxxed - Vancouver, WA
I've had several problems with this television since I purchased it in 2007. Shortly after purchase, the HDMI board went out. It was under warranty but it took four visits for the repair service to get the correct part from Toshiba. Now, after twenty-two months, it has developed several vertical lines across the screen, one in the middle and one down each side about a third of the way in. While not overly intrusive in dark scenes, once you know the lines are there you can't NOT see them, especially when a scene pans horizontally. Of course this happened shortly after the warranty expired. Luckily I bought this with my SIGNATURE VISA which doubled Toshiba's warranty. The service technician diagnosed the panel (for a .00 service call) as needing to be replaced at a total cost of over 00.00. Heck, I only paid 00.00 for the TV to begin with. Looks like VISA will be reimbursing me my original purchase price. You can be sure I will NOT be buying a Toshiba.

Great LCD TV but mine has a Backlight Bleeding Problem - Jose Lemos -
If you are considering buying this TV because of its Cable Card Slot,don't. I have had my cable company change 2 cable cards already and I am still having problems. My Tv came with a "backlight bleeding problem". If you don't know what this problem is, just Google it. It will be worth your time as this problem is very commom among LCDs. I had the worst experience with Toshiba customer service and two of its repair centers. They will not acknoledge the problem and will not fix it. I have sent them several letters which went answered. It is really sad when a company like Toshiba treats its repeat customers like that!

I wanted a small television for my kitchen that would not take up a lot of space. This television is currently on my kitchen counter, but we will eventually mount it on the wall. The television was affordable (less than 0.00) and does exactly what I need it to do. I did not want to spend a lot of money and wasn't too concerned about having a more high end television, so I went with the Colby because I have had good experiences with their portable MP3 players. If you are hooking this television up to cable, you will do just fine. That was not the case with me, so after I turned the set on and could not get a picture, I telephoned their technical support line. I was informed that I would have to purchased an amplified t.v. antenna in order to pick up signals.

My first thought was to return the television, however because I fell in love with the size and how cute it looked on my kitchen counter, I decided to purchased an amplified t.v. antenna from Radio Shack. The one I purchased costed me about .00. I live about 15 miles from New York City, so I was able to pick up quite a few stations in what appears to be HD. The picture is now crystal clear. I am now very happy with my purchase.

This is a terrific TV! I have been looking for a small TV for the kitchen for over a year. Since the national switch to HDTV, no major companies are making small TV's (smaller than 19"). So pleased I found this one. The price was great. I am using the TV with a Phillips HDTV antenna (Philips SDV2740/27 HDTV/UHF/VHF/FM Digital Indoor TV Antenna). We receive 34 channels clear as day. In fact, I split the antenna between two televisions, which saves me from purchasing an additional antenna. I read many reviews on Amazon and waited months to take the plunge. Some people were concerned with sound quality. The sound seems just fine to me. The TV was actually sent to me by J & R Electronics. I ordered the TV late on a Monday evening and received it before noon on Wednesday. You can't beat that and shipping was free. If you are looking for a small TV, consider this one. I am glad I took a chance on this one.

The speakers need help. I plugged in a small set of speakers with their own power supply.
I have over-the-air digital and analog antennas. Digital for US, analog for Montreal 75 miles away.
I also plugged it in to computers for a second screen.

Ordered this TV around Christmas and it arrived on Dec 30th. Packed well and rec'd in excellent condition. There is a yellow sheet in the box that explains how to hook up the two power cords. Note: The TV sits on the subwoofer and it serves as a stand. The sheet describes with pictures how to plug in the subwoofer, but not the TV. There is a big red X over the power cord hookup for the TV. The layman would then think the TV gets its power from the connection to the subwoofer/stand. Not so. My first call was to Sony to ask why no picture. Sony had no idea. Plugging in the TV solved the problem! -duh?-then why is the yellow sheet in the box taped to the TV? The second call had to do with the subwoofer and surround (SS) not working. It does not appear to say it in the book, but the surround will only work when the TV audio setting is in Matrix. When playing a movie, change the setting to Movie. Still, the surround sound and subwoofer are of moderate value. I would recommend leaving off the subwoofer for the higher price (N model) and get the M model and use your own surround sound with amp. Lastly, there is the remote control. This is the worst design I've ever seen. Skinny and the channel/volume controls are at the bottom. So you can't operate it with one hand unless you hold the remote at the very bottom. The mute button is a recessed switch at the very bottom. Why recessed? All the TV setup controls are up at the top where one usually operates the TV. The remote should be wider and flat like an All-in-One remote. So, in conclusion, I am well satisfied with the picture and the sound is not any better than some Samsungs I've recently seen that do not have the subwoofer and SS. You would think the SS comes alive during an adventure movie, but it does not unless you turn the volume way up.

I personally love this TV and the picture and sound that it gives. However I must state that the TV it was replacing probably should be in a museum. We have not as of yet upgraded to HD service and are still working on our usual cable service. love the picture which is a huge upgrade from what we had before. Personally the speakers are also great for me but again that is most likely because of where we started from before we got this TV. I love the fact that I am able to have both my DVD player and my Wii hooked up at the same time. The graphics when playing the Wii are great. The colours are crisp and bright. I would recommend that you change the colour settings to what you like as soon as you get it as it makes a huge difference. For the price I would say this was a great TV I am sure if you are worried about the specs etc then yes you could do better but you would also pay a lot more too.

Dead Pixel already - TMH - New York
Just purchased this unit and have a blown pixel. I don't know if it came out of the box this way or if it just occured after 3 weeks of usage. In anycase, I looked this up on google and it seems to be a not so uncommon problem with some SHARP LCD's. I am a bit frustrated, but atleast the blown pixel is on the bottom right portion of the screen and not dead smack in the middle. I called SHARP customer service and was on hold for about ten minutes. The service rep was pleasant and responsive. She offered me a few options to fix my problem. We documented this problem and will request service if I see more dead pixels appear in the future.
All in all, this television is good. Blow pixel seems to be the luck of the draw with LCDs. I also own a SAMSUNG 42inch plasma which I think is excellent.

I also have a Sharp 20 inch LCD HDTV (non-Aquos) which I have enjoyed for 6 months. I would give it an A-. The 20 inch was purchased to replace a 20 inch Sony Trinitron (analog tube TV). I really needed a bigger screen since I typically sit about 8-9 feet away from the screen. This new 32 inch LCD HDTV is just right. However, it seems to be MUCH darker than the 20 inch Sharp. I had to adjust the settings to get the screen where I wanted it. Now I feel the picture is just shy of a Samsung or Sony, but the Sharp price combined with the internal HDTV and QAM tuner pushed me to the Sharp. It is easy to use and the stand is quite strong (no wobbling). Overall I am very happy with my Sharp TVs.

The guy with the dead pixel should have plugged his TV in before he signed for delivery - that's what I did. This TV has been great, I've been using it with my Gamecube, DVDs and even through DVI with my computer. This is about as cheap as you're going to find a namebrand 32 inch LCD and I'll tell you - I don't feel like I've skimped at all.

Stay away from Zenith !! - J. Vera - Houston, TX
Prior to buying the TV we had a 27" CRT TV that lasted 19 years. So we decided to buy a new TV since it was getting old. So in 1/17/2004 we bought a 40" Projection TV with a 2 years extended warranty. The TV has been performing great and we have been very happy with it until just last week when we noticed "blue shadows" all over the screen.
After looking over the manual and adjusting the convergence, no success.

To fix this TV outside of its warranty will cost over ,000 dollars, and with prices on TV's dropping it makes no sense to send it in for repair. It has basically become a disposable TV. We are very disappointed that our TV has only lasted 3 years. I'm sending it to Goodwill.

I'm very disappointed that Zenith will not stand behind their products. My only mistake was not researching Zenith TVs prior to buying since I had full faith in the brand.

I found other people on the internet with the same exact problem !!

I'm sorry to say this was my last Zenith TV.

This TV has an amazingly beautiful picture, with deep darks and bright colors, and good saturation even in soft, light colors that might get washed out on other TVs. Scenic panoramas are so realistic! One reviewer said they thought the picture was too dark overall, but I can't understand why, unless it's being watched in a very bright room. My experience is that we had to turn the LED backlight down a lot to make it dim enough and save our retinas. We're very impressed with the picture quality and the sound is even impressive for a TV, but we still hooked it up to the stereo system, because of course that's better. But we were impressed with the audio quality as far as TV speakers go.

There was an issue with 1 of the 4 HDMI ports not working, however LG said for any TV over 30", they will send a technician to your home to repair any issue not caused by customer abuse, and this would be covered, but since we only really need 2 inputs, it's a tolerable defect. One other small complaint is that the HDMI ports have a loose fit, however, in three weeks, we only had to tighten once and they're holding steady. The ports are just around behind the screen, easily accessible without going behind the TV, so it's no problem. These issues are minor, and I would still choose this TV over others for it's great picture quality! I'm very happy we bought it, and at such a great price. And for LG's fabulous customer support, 5 stars.

The seller was great (Video & Audio Center) and shipped it same day for free. It arrived in just a couple days.

One of the best LED-backlit TV's for the price - L. Sayre -
I love this TV. Unpacking it and setting it up was a breeze... just a couple screws to attach the LCD to the base. Brightest picture, deepest blacks, and best colors on any LCD TV I've seen. The contrast is simply amazing, which I attribute to the local LED backlighting. The only issue that I found is that when you have a dark area of the screen with a white object, such as text, the screen has a tiny bit of "blooming" around that object, but only visible when viewing the TV at an angle. Trust me, this issue is barely noticeable. Overall the backlighting is more uniform than edge-lit or non-LED backlit displays.

I just recently purchased this set and have been happy with it. Works great right out of the box with all the features you want. No analog audio out so you will need a digital-analog converter for optical sound cable out if you use an old receiver. Great remote, extensive menu and fantastic picture. Of course SD broadcasts look terrible. Bezel is shiny and VERY BIG, which I'm still getting used to but overall quite happy and understand why CNET gave it a 4 out of 5 stars and is just as good as a plasma picture wise. UPDATE: It's Feb. 16th, 2009 and I'm still loving my LG. Purchased it around June of 2008. No problems at all. Picture is still as awesome as the day I took it out of the box.

I have owned the LG42LBX 42" LCD TV for about 6 months now. It is one of the best items I have ever purchased. I own 3 LCD TV's which are all great but the LG stands above them all. For starters, I purchased for only ,100. I was looking at a Sony 37" LCD that was about 0-500 more than the LG and the Sony was only 60HZ. I watch alot of sports so I really wanted the 120HZ so I didn't have to watch choppy motion. I didn't want to get a plasma tv because I HATE how glossy the screens are. The LCD's screens are matte black with no sheen and hence no glare. A few weeks after I bought this TV I set up one of my 720P 32" LCD TV's next to the LG during a Saturday night of College Football (so we could watch two games simultaneously) and the 60HZ TV had a definite motion blur, the LG with it's 120Hz, as I had hoped, had none. For the money this has to be the best TV you could possibly find anywhere. Also, FYI the only major technical difference between the 2007 42LBX "Opus" and the new 2008 model 42LG60 "Scarlet" is there is one extra side HDMI slot and the contrast ratio is higher (50,000:1).

PROS: 120HZ means no motion blur, great/classy piano black finish but no glossy screen, awesome picture, great menu controls, WAY LOWER PRICE THAN OTHER 120hz LCD TV's.

CONS: Speakers aren't very loud and don't put out the greatest sound either. No picture in picture.

I ordered the LCD TV from Amazon/Tiger Direct. Tiger Direct was not able to deliever the TV on time so the order was cancelled. Tiger Direct refunded the price of the TV, but failed to return shipping/handling charges and also kept the taxes charged for the TV. This was in Dec/Jan and here it is April and my money has not been returned. I am now not going to order from Amazon again.

Crystal clear picture with HD. The 120HZ has been great watching football. I can't stand watching the older tubed 32" samsung downstairs anymore. It does not even compare. I would recommend this tv at the 9.00 price. We are very happy with our purchase.

This TV from LG is an unbelievable deal. I have had it for 2 months now. For 99, this TV packs an incredible punch. Even though technology for these TVs is always improving, I don't think there is much more room for improvement. It is 2007 model, but still has mostly all the bells and whistles that the new Scarlet line has. I have a PS3 and have watched blue-ray movies, played online games, and watched up-converted DVDs. All are spectacular. The 1080p with 120Hz processing does an incredible job. If you are looking for an all around top performer without the high-end price tag, this TV is for you.

After owning this TV now for a few years, I've found that the physical "on/off" button starts to develop problems (eventually you're forced to use the remote only), and sometimes after being turned on it improperly formats the screen, but otherwise the picture is great with no ghosting, multiple screen formats, and clear colors. I have had this tv for the past 5 years now. It just recently kicked the bucket. But hey, i have no complaints with a tv that gave me absolutely no problems for 5 long years of being used as a computer monitor/tv/gaming tv. It has a great picture! Sure its not the best and towards the end of its life there was very minor burn in from the static firefox search bar etc. Overall this is a wonderful tv and i would recommend it to anyone! :-)

Never buy a product from Westinghouse Digital. I purchased a laptop from them and it arrived with major hardware problems. Upon discovering the problem with my computer, I attempted to obtain an RMA number and my call was NEVER returned. Without this number you cannot get anything serviced. After I called 3 times over the period of two weeks, someone finally told me the number and the address. They received my package on January 9, and I have not heard a single thing since then (February 13). Furthermore, everytime I have called to inquire, I have been on hold for an unacceptably long period, and when my call was finally answered, the response was that they knew nothing and would get back to me, which never happened. I have been without my computer for a month and a half now, with no end in sight. It is a gamble to purchase any product from this company, since any factory defect may lead you to lose complete track of your property and spend countless hours on hold and listening to excuses.

This television is really an exceptional deal. I had been slow to upgrade to HD in the bedroom, but, after reading reviews in CR (where it was noted as a "Great Buy") I checked it out at a local retailer. I was able to get one for under 00 and am extremely happy with it. Big, bright, clear, cheap (but not cheaply made)--everything you'd want! I especially appreciate the fact that it was surprisingly easy to set up. I don't have a dish or cable connection in the bedroom, so, I just hooked it up to a very old antenna (probably was used to pick up Ed Sullivan) and the television automatically searched for the channels in my area and presto, up and running in literally under 5 minutes. I live approximately 50 miles from the nearest television towers and all expected channels came in perfect. I'm even receiving a number of channels that I didn't even know where available in our area. The design is nice and understated, although the blue light on the front when the television is turned off is a bit bright for a bedroom (although I think there is a way to turn that off-just haven't figured it out yet). Remote is very nice with soft rubbery keys that have back lighting. I think anyone would be happy with this purchase.

I bought this tv in January '09 even though I was hesitant to buy it because of the low price and because I had never heard of the Olevia brand before. This tv cost me 1 on sale @ Target. I bought an Olevia blu ray player at the same time and the two items work great together and I have not had any problems with either of them. This tv has great sound, excellent picture quality and is easy to operate. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Great television, YES! But a few minor flaws - New York Bargain Hunter - New York NY USA
This television is everything that everyone else is throwing five stars at it except for two problems. The first one is tiny, which is that the black is not black enough, basically if you are watching a night scene it will cause you to squint. So unless you are watching Alien V Predator, the view is as good as the "BRAND NAME" television sets. The second problem irks the heck out of me which is the PIP. It's awesome that it has PIP but the PIP selections are very limited. You can only watch HDMI with everything else, otherwise you are stuck with a limited selection such as components 1-2 or VGA with everything else. You can not match composites 1 and 2 or S-wire with composites or either with a regular quam tuned channels. So unless you can figure out how to hook up a Wii via HDMI you can't watch the game and lose weight on your Wii fit at the same time. The blue night-light is also annoying, I ended up putting a piece of electrical tape on it, it's really bright.

This tv is great picture is great and the coolest feature is the split screen feature where you can watch or play to diff things at once. for ex. you can play ps3 and the wii at the same time or you can watch a movie on your hd or blu-ray and have the same movie on your standard player at the same time to see the diff. i love to do that to my friends that say theres no diff between hd and standard. and for 00 - 00 you cant and wont find a better tv. trust you dont have to spend the extra 1000 just for a sony, you can get a system for your home theater to go with this tv instead.

First of all, this TV DOES display 1080p images. It may be marketed as a 720p, but the manufacturer forgot to block the "display" setting from telling you what kind of image is showing, which ranges from NTSC to 1080p. Just press the "display" button in the remote. So having said that, THIS TV IS AMAZING FOR THE PRICE. Thanks Sony.

I like this tv a lot. The picture quality is amazing when connected to my playstation 3. It still surprises me after a year of having it, since its almost like looking through a window into the games or movies.
Games such as Bioshock, Dead Space, Dirt and movies such as Wall-e and the Watchmen look incredible. Regular NTSC channels look like crap, since the tv enhances the detail so much you have to make some adjustments to "tone it down".
You go to the "sharpness" and "noise" settings and adjust them. They won't adjust themselves. I put the sharpness to the lowest and noise setting to its highest and NTSC channels look fine.

It has 3 preset-adjustable picture settings: vivid, custom and standard.

The speakers deliver crisp sound, but obviously they don't have a bass punch. You will need to connect a separate set of speakers for powerful bass, but the tv's are powerful enough for a room and they volume is loud at 30 where I usually have it. It goes up to a 100 but I've never used it once, don't need to.

It has an optical-out connection that you can connect to a theater sound system for crisp digital signal.
I don't know what the big deal with the black colors is, if they wash out or not. They're just black, and if you want blacker just adjust the brightness and the backlight settings. simple.
I did notice that the backlight leaks a little at the higher right corner when the screen is black, but is not a huge problem. You can adjust it.

I do have a problem with not being able to discard all the analog channels, and just keep the digital ones. You can't discard any channel for that matter, and they're all programmed together.
The favorist list is pretty bad too. You can favorite 10 channels, but you can't organize them or delete the ones you already added. You just sort of push them off the bottom of the list with a new channel which is pretty time consuming and stupid.

It has 2 HDMI inputs, and about 3 analog video inputs. 1 pc input which I haven't used.

This TV doesn't have many features, aside from adjusting the colors. But again, its a Sony, and the picture quality is great. If people want many secondary features, they probable should pay double the price and get the more expensive Sony.
I have yet to have a sony product break on me, and this tv will probably last several years, hopefuly.

My family and I have been buying Sony products for years, which is why this was the obvious choice when I needed a TV for my bedroom. The TV had no problems what so ever for the first year. But one day, 13 months after I had bought it (which is one month after the warranty expired) I turned on my TV to find vertical colorful stripes that would slowly appear on the screen. I talked to Sony, and all they could do was give me a number to a repair shop since my TV was no longer under warranty. It's very frustrating that they have no obligation to fix my defective set. I understand that most of the reviews here are favorable probably because it hasn't been over a year yet.

Bought this tv a year or so ago and quickly got rid of it. The picture was grainy. SD channels looked like crap. HD was passable but I found there are better tvs out there. Currently using a 42" Panasonic 720P plasma and couldn't be happier. Do yourself a favor. Either pick up a plasma from Panasonic or an LCD from Samsung. you can find deals on Panasonic Plasmas all year round. Samsungs do go on sale from time to time but their sale prices are higher than Sony sale prices in my experience. But, again its totally worth it. Anyone who claims this tv has great picture is blindly giving a good review because it is a SONY.

I purchased this tv from PriceSmart in Trinidad. It worked wonderfully out of the box, good picture and sound quality, a tad bit slow when changing channels, but thats Ok. All was fine until after less than a year of purchase, for some some reason the tv just would not power on. I took it back to PriceSmart (on August 26th 2009) for them to honour my one year warranty, where their technicians said it was a part gone bad. As of today's date I am still getting the run around in getting back my television with the new part.

All in all, its a good tv with excellent quality, but, purchase it from Amazon, NOT PriceSmart, Trinidad & Tobago

I order this Sansui HDLCDVD 325 32" 720p LCD TV on 5/5/09. The price is 0 but with delivery fee total is 2.97, instead of waiting for delivery, you may buy in local store cheaper and faster. The TV with DVD player is not that heavy, you can carry easily and very convenient to use the remote and watch, may be I use roof antenna, some channal i.e. CBS is blurring. For small room is great to have it expecial to watch DVD movies.

I did research for over fours month before I bought this TV. I saw this pop up in an ad for 1200 and after reading reviews, scoped it right up. I've had it for just about two months now and have not had one problem with the tv at all. On to the details. . .

I'm a techie type of guy, I like TV's, surround sound systems / computers etc. However I am a techie guy on a budget. I read a lot about this model and was concerned about it first being introduced around July 07. I know that they are probably not making more of these so in theory you are getting a dated model - one year in the TV world is a long time. I went to see the TV in the store and was not impressed with the picture very much at all - I took a leap of faith and bought it hoping that the store was messing with image. I can say after a few months of use I am VERY satisfied with this TV so far. For under 1350.00 how else can you get a 52" 1080 LCD hdtv? The price is right. Keep in mind it is an older model and the only issues I have with the picture is it doesn't look fantastic when viewed up close ( with-in three feet), then again only the ,500 samsungs do. If you are viewing this TV from a distance (which you should be), you will be happy with the picture. I have a small apartment and watch it from only 8 feet away. Everyone that comes over talks about how freaking cool this tv looks (picture wise).

The TV has three hdmi inputs in the back and does seem to literally be a dust magnet, but I wouldn't give her up for the world - I love this TV,

It has a few "settings' that you can tinker with, but I'm no idiot. All the setting seem to really do is make the image look bad when you turn them off. Why would a TV company do that? To make you think they have cool options that inprove the picture. I think these are designed to trick people into thinking "why look how much better those extra settings make the TV look".

I look past that trickery when I enjoy this TV.

If you are looking for a huge HDTV screen on a budget (and dont want to settle with the lame 720 plasmas) - this is your tv!

I bought a Philips TV. My mistake. - iamsonic - Waterloo, Iowa
{I have had this Philips TV for over a year now}

I spent a lot of time researching the 52" TVs available. I knew which one I wanted, it was a Vizio Gallevia. I had tested and run through the operations of the Gallevia at the local Sams Club but they only had the display model and no box or carton for delivery and they would not deliver it.. So I drove 45 minutes to the closest Sams club which had one in the carton to sell. When I arrived {10 minutes before closing time}, they had that TV and this Philips but the Philips had higher resolution specs so I decided that even though I had driven 45 minutes to buy the Vizio and even though the Philips was more than $[...] more.. I would buy the Philips. A ten minute impulse decision after more than two weeks of research. ... What a colossal mistake!

This may sound biased and you had better believe it is!

The Philips 52PFL7422D/37: Takes over a minute to turn on, does not change channels fast, freaks out if you accidentally go to a channel that doesn't have service {it takes two minutes to recover from that}, has generally poor picture quality, has no tolerance for outside light, does not have the anti-glare screen, always has motion issues where the red blue do not keep up when a person moves across the picture {their resolution rating was B.S.}, it also has crappy speakers which you cannot turn off, no control of the line audio output{you hook up to the outputs and they are full output all the time}, the remote control does not light up. {the Vizio did and I knew it!}, the volume and channel display is in blue in the top of the screen... the same color blue as most skies in most TV shows!... [you can't friggin see it!!], and it doesn't have picture in picture!... {the Vizio did}

I really should have taken it back but I was too busy and it is too heavy.. so I just left it on the wall. When I watch it I pretend there are no adjustments.. that way I won't get too bothered about it. Honestly, sometimes I just turn it off regardless of whether or not I am watching something. You do not want this annoyance, and you should not kid yourself. I seriously doubt they changed.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

Great T.V. that we bought direct from Philips. Didn't worry about an extended warranty because we weren't offered one. We have bought other Philips products in the past and never bothered to look at online reviews. I really wish I had. We had the t.v for exactly 15 months, and it broke. Customer Service is a nightmare. "No warranty, no service!" 0.00 later, after having to hunt down a "certified repair center", pay them to come out to get the set, then diagonse that it's the LCD itself. The tech laughed at me when I told him it was a Philips to begin with. I wasn't too surprised when they came back with the diagnosis after he explained that Philips should not be manufacturing any T.V. period. They've seen this way too many times with the Plasma and LCD t.v.'s since 2005. No parts, no service, no way to fix what's broken without basically purchasing a whole new television. To add insult to injury, I now have to pay to dump it. We're very upset that we paid so much for what amounts to a giant paper weight. Do NOT buy Philips if you don't want to waste an enormous amount of money! If you do, I'll most likely see you in about 7-15 months (if you're lucky!) from now adding your negative review to this site. =(

Defective Display Panel(s) - Kirk Kuykendall - San Antonio, TX USA
I bought this in 5/08.

In 2/09 the right 1/3 of my screen went black. The repair shop replaced the display panel. When the repairman brought it back and turned it on, the screen had a washboard effect. He took it back and confirmed that the new display panel was defective too. It has now been in the repair shop for over a month. The display panel is on backorder and they cannot tell me when it will be shipped. If anyone from Philips is reading this see ref# 7JW76.
I can't help but think that some other defective component is damaging the display panel.

I was very pleased with this purchase and haven't had any problems with the unit (I've owned mine for 9 months as of this writing). It seems very intuitive and easy to use.

When I was researching my purchase, I was concerned about the glossy finish causing glare or being easily damaged (I have two small children) but I selected this unit based on the specs and aesthetic look. I definitely recommend looking at actual units in stores (I used Circuit City and Best Buy for my comparison shopping). Anyway, the glossy screen hasn't been a problem for my home / use after all.

I had also planned to mount this TV on the wall (to keep it safe from the little crazy people who live with us). After setting it on our console I was surprised at how stable it was and decided that the wall mount was unnecessary. I may still decide to mount it someday but since we already have a console that we use to store our A/V components in I don't see a need to.

Nice TV, as long as it lasts... - Johnny -
The TV is a nice unit, except that it has a 'birth defect'. Within 18 months of purchase it started clicking and not powering on right away, and eventually stopped working. This is the second Samsung I own which had the same problem. A few hundred dollars later, a TV repair shop replaced the power supply board and got it working again. I wrote a more detailed report for the LN-T4669F model. Samsung will completely ignore you because the 12 month warranty has expired. Buyer beware!

This is the best Tv I've ever owned. While that isn't saying much, this TV is excellent. I bought it used off craigslist and made sure to do my homework before I bought it. With all the reviews on amazon and everyone raving so much about it, I couldn't pass it up for 0! I haven't mounted it on the wall yet, but that will come soon. I have everything hooked up to this tv, my satellite, my xbox 360, and I use it as a second computer monitor for watching netflix and movies. I have had no problems whatsoever. Wonderful tv and wonderful picture.

After seeing the picture postcard like LCD displays in many stores, I fianlly gave in to the temptation of buying a HD LCD tv - and what a tv it is!
I am glad I listened to my friend who has had this set for a year and a half.

Was surprised to see the rating that this tv has on amazon. Looking closer, I found that some of the negative rating were for other Panasonic tv's and not this one. A goof up somewhere.

Singling out any one feature may do injustice to the many this one has to offer. Let me explain each on its own merit:

1. Picture: First thing that would bowl anyone out is the picture quality - crisp picture, great rich colors, excellent contrast, just too pleasing to the eyes. To compare the video from different sources:
a. HD Cable channels: This tv enhanced the clarity of the HD channels even further, when comparing to some of the pictures I have seen in TV stores.
b. Standard TV channels: The TV has a "normal" video mode for watching standard width format SDTV programs. Standard TV channels look very preety good on this TV, easily comparable to my old Sony Trinitron.

Room Lighting effect: The TV has 3 main preset modes for different lighting conditions. Vivid is great in a well lit room. The Normal mode is good in "drawing room" dimly lit conditions. The cinema mode brings home the theatre in low light conditions. Plus, the TV has good manual setting controls to change the picture "look" as per user tastes.

2. Sound: After setting this TV up, I did not feel the need for connecting my Onkyo speakers for a month after listening to the surprisingly good sound from this set. With the speakers lying around and the availability of so many slots for hooking these up behind the TV set, I did make the connection. Luckily my neighbours are on vacation.

3. Looks: The TV, with the matching stand looks stunning. With its low depth, it is as good as a flat panel TV for people who do not want to hang it on the wall.

4. Remote: The remote is very easy to use and has a lot of controls on it. It was easy for my fingers to get used to this one after being trained to use the Sony for so many years.

5. Controls: The TV has manual and auto channel tuning. You would love the search option where by it keeps showing a small window of 3 channels on the side which playing the cahnnel you want to see on the big part of the screen. Thus I do not miss any action while watching the TV guide for what's next!

6. Connectivity: It is easy to hook up the HD box, computer, DVD player, Tivo Xbox and everything else together on this box. It has multiple s-video, component and composite slots.
The TV offers these video connect options to connect the source to the TV. These are listed below in the order of quality, the best listed first:

7. Extras: SVGA cable is inside the pacakage, saves a few good dollars.

8. Bulb Life: A few reviews here said that the bulb has a short life. They have mentioned a differnt TV model and not this one. Mine has been good since I bought it and my friend has not had to replace it for 18 months now.

9. Computer monitor: I used the SVGA cable to hook my computer to this TV. With a wireless mouse/keyboard set, am able to use my computer without moving a muscle. What I love even more is that I can surf the net and watch my favourite sport together on the same huge screen.

This product is highly recommended!

Large enough to "wow" you but compact enough for modest-sized homes and offices, Panasonic's PT-43LC14 high-definition liquid-crystal projection TV offers a perfectly flat, 43-inch display in a widescreen (16:9) dimension that's perfect for viewing DVDs and DTV movies in their native aspect ratios. The foot-deep set offers a total of 12 separate inputs, including 4 component-video inputs, a HDMI digital video input for a direct-digital connection with a DTV set-top box, and 1 PC input capable of VGA, SVGA, or compressed XGA resolution (1 rear, 1 front). A handy PCMCIA/SD Memory Card slot lets you hook up your computer for viewing a digital photo slide show.

The set offers a native resolution of 1,280 x 720 alongside high, 400 cd/m2 brightness ensures vivid, exacting images from DVD players and other devices. What's more, Panasonic's Progressive Scan Doubler will upconvert standard interlaced (non-progressive) broadcast and auxiliary signals to flicker-free, 480p resolution.

The PT-43LC14 is considerably less bulky than most rear-projection televisions and consumes less energy. Further, LCD displays don't suffer from misconvergence or flicker, like their CRT counterparts. The Panasonic multimedia display incorporates thin-film transistor (TFT) technology, also known as active matrix, to improve color reproduction, eliminate ghosting, and boost response speed. A matching stand, the TY-43LC14C (shown), is sold separately.

Two-tuner picture-in-picture with split-screen display lets you view 2 programs at once by dividing the screen in half down the middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right.

Movie sources get their due with Panasonic's 3:2 pulldown reversal feature, Progressive Cinema Scan. This enhancement compensates for motion artifacts that sometimes result from the telecine process that's used to convert film's 24-frames-per-second to an NTSC-friendly 60 frames per second. Other picture-enhancing features include horizontal and vertical edge correction and a motion-adaptive 3D Y/C digital comb filter, which eliminates "hanging dots" and color rainbow effects in closely spaced patterns.

The set's 2-way stereo speakers are powered by 15 watts per channel, and BBE ViVA HD3D Sound makes sure every program sounds its fullest and liveliest.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link the set with any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

What a mistake - L. Recker - Cincinnati, OH
My husband and I bought this t.v. for my parents as a gift to them for helping us remodel our kitchen. We bought it in December 2005.

We are now the proud owners of the television after they received notice that the bulb needed to be replaced. Again. The first replacement bulb (7/07) set them back 0! On a 00 t.v.! Acc to Panasonic, the bulb is now *only* 0.

Bottom line: instead of forking out another 0, and spending good money chasing a crappy product, they went out and bought a new Sony plasma t.v.

I'm embarrassed that I bought such a pile of junk for my parents. I stuck to a brand name because I thought the quality would be better. Boy was I wrong. Panasonic should be ashamed of themselves for soaking people hundreds of dollars for a part that probably costs them .

I realize this TV is no longer available, this might serve to be more historical than anything else.

We have had this TV for 4 years now. I know exactly when we got this, it was during the 2004 ALDS series against Los Angelos. I am a Red Sox fan, this is a time frame that I can never forget. Our previous TV (a 27" Sony that we'd gotten when we were married in 1993) had picked that week to go flakey, at one point everything was red and that wouldn't do.

So we've had this TV now for four years. Two days ago this interesting nag message has appeared when we start the set, it tells us that we have to replace the bulb and reset the bulb timer. It is just a nag screen, you can get past it, but not with our Harmony remote (so we had to go on a treasure hunt to find the original remote...).

I am now searching for a replacement bulb, holding my breath, thinking it will cost 0 - 0 to replace. My first Google search showed from 5 - 7, not bad for 4 years.

We are a family of 5, we really don't watch that much TV (obviously if we can go 4 years). This is our only TV set in our house so it gets all the use of TV, DVD, VCR, Wii, Playstation, etc.

The TV was perfect for our family room, we sit about 10' from the set, 43" is about as large as I'd wanted to go, any bigger and (at the time) the image would appear too blocky. HD images are absolutely stunning on this screen. I tend to favor HD channels only when I do watch TV, I only watch/buy widescreen DVDs too. I haven't tried BluRay or the like with this set, though I have no reason to think it wouldn't be as stunning as HD channels.

I only gave this 4 stars because a lot of detail is lost in low light images (this might just be the bulb too, I will find out in the next week).

Two of the features that I liked when we got this (it beat out a Sony) was the memory card slot for viewing photos and the computer inputs on the side. I used the memory card input once (I think the first day or two of getting it). I used the PC input once also. Four years later and I just remembered it had the memory card slot while searching for the model number.

So here's the skinny, after 4 years it is still kicking, I think we could probably go along another month or so before we replace the light, though I will most likely order its replacement tonight (Murphy's law would put the time it dies during an important Patriot's Game or something like that). We are kicking around the idea of a 2nd TV (wow, fast lane here) for our bedroom and Panasonic is at the top of my list during my research (though that will be a true flat screen LCD panel).

So, I hope this either helps someone looking at a used set or Panasonic in general.

I've had this set for almost a year and it's been great. The picture is great in Hi-Def and it is good at displaying at non Hi-Def as well. The main complaint others have seems to be the bulb wearing out, mine hasn't yet. And, I think the sound is pretty good.
Update: this TV is now close to 4 years old (I think) and no blown bulbs yet.

Started looking for HDTVs in mid 2009 and after researching screen size I settled on 32-37' in size. Started examining models at Best Buys and Comp USAs, and the design and features of the LG really stood out. Overall the TV looks beautiful from a design standpoint. When it comes to nuts and bolts I feel it outstrips the comparably priced Samsung line or the higher priced Sony line. The contrast ratio of 70,000:1 is pretty much the highest your going to find on a 32' screen. The 1080p picture is gorgeous. The 120hz I feel is a nice bonus but not a selling feature as most media doesn't need it, but never hurts to be ahead of the curve. The HDMI ports are easily accessible, as are the rest of the inputs. The firmware works great and it's easy to program favorite channels, tune the TV, and set preferences. A great TV for a prospective HDTV adopter or experienced user.

Had this a few weeks now, and this is a great buy. Loads of inputs, great specs... if you're not looking for something huge, this is the one to buy. I'm also using it as a PC monitor, and it's fantastic. I'm in a studio apartment right now, so getting the dual-use out of this helps me save space. Any bigger, and I probably wouldn't want to use it on the PC, but at 32", it's perfect, IMO. I'm playing WoW, RTS, and FPS on it with no complaints... handles fast paced games (UT2k4) just fine. Threw out my old 19" monitor. Had to tweak a few PC and TV settings to get the picture centered and text looking perfect (Changed font-smoothing method in Display Properties), but was very minimal effort required... looks fantastic.

I ordered this item from Adorama Camera at the suggestion of Amazon,as the original supplier no longer carried the item. Adorama sent me an e-mail stating that the item (LG 32LH40 32-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black), was on back order and if I wanted any information I should call their contact number, which I did. I was told that it would be in, in about two(2) weeks. I asked if they would contact me. Adorama said that they only generate one(1) e-mail to contact costumers, and that if I wanted any information I would have to call them. Again, I called in two(2) weeks; again I was told the item was on back order and Adorama did not know when thay would receive it into stock. I cancelled the order. All this after Amazon had directed me to this supplier.I never received the item

I'm not sure how the other guy could not find the power button because it's right on the front in the lower-right corner...you can see it in the pictures, for crying out loud.

But anyways, I got this TV to use as a second monitor for my laptop. It is a fine machine and synchronized well with both MacOS X and Windows XP. I hooked it up with HDMI instead of VGA. All the picture and audio settings are there to let you fine-tune yours to get a good picture and sound out of it. It will accept 1080i, as I hooked up my Xbox 360 and it recognized it on the TV as 1080i. It has a fantastic picture and I noticed no lag between controller input and screen output - while playing Guitar Hero, nonetheless - as I think it has a 5 ms response time.

It's an excellent TV for the price, and I believe mine was a lot cheaper when purchased at Target (0).

Crisp picture, easy to use settings, accepting of all formats. Good TV. And yes, I could find the power button, and the remote works just fine.

VGA input: when the PC switches resolution (for example, going from the bootup text screen to a higher graphics resolution) it fails to adjust properly. You have to switch the input to something else, then back to VGA to fix it. You have to do this everytime your PC switches resolution.

Jack audio input (for use with the VGA) is extremely sensitive to noise/interference.

With the HDMI input there is no option to use one of the analog audio inputs. E.g., when you hook up a PC with a DVI-to-HDMI cable you cannot get sound, unless your PC can output audio on the DVI (most PCs can't).

EDID info reported on the HDMI is useless/wrong for PC inputs, the native 1440x900 resolution isn't even in there!

I received this Tv and it would not turn on? I could not fine a manual button on Tv to turn on. Messing with remote I did get it on but it would not respond to remote you press 20 and get channel 66. I called company that verified Warrantee and said tv was not the problem it was remote and one was ordered. But to date I do not have tv back. It has been a month. I cannot believe it could take so long to receive. Repair shop has had it. Frustrated out the money and yet to receive a working TV.

I purchased the 37" version of this set and I'm overall satisfied. I'm reviewing here because it appears that the online store where I purchased it will only post absolutely glowing reviews. I purchased based on the fact that 98 reviews were all positive (4&5star). Here is what I tried to post there:
Like the previous hundred people, I was impressed with the HD picture quality for such a reasonable price, 0. It "sometimes" isn't as good as my 23" Toshiba LCD that gets the "over the airwave" HD picture through a DigitalStream HD3150plus tuner with a HDMI cable. I believe this may be due to the size of the Hannspree screen, 37". If you use the zoom feature and set it to ½ size, it is comparable to the Toshiba. Anyone who has expanded a video file on a computer screen knows that it degrades if you get it too big. Some TV shows are actually broadcast in a much smaller screen size, which you can see by pressing the "Wide" button and going to "no scale". One thing I found annoying with the zoom feature, that in my opinion, makes it useless, is when the white box with a smaller black box inside, pops into the middle of the screen with the size (2x, 4x, 1/32, 1/2 etc.) also in the middle, to the right of the box, that's showing you how much you have zoomed. The box and writing can't be turned off, so you can't actually watch anything in anything but the standard mode. I'm hoping that there is some kind of a software upgrade to fix this in the future or Hannspree changes this in the next production.

The next thing I found disappointing is that the POP/PIP (picture-in-picture) can't capture a picture from both the "Airwave" and "Cable" at the same time, for this feature. You have to draw the second picture from another source such as a VCR, DVD, PC, or something through one of the HDMI connections.

Then regarding a second and third source, the AV and S-vid connection use the same "audio in" connection, so you can only use one or the other OR constantly be plugging and unplugging audio depending on the source. If one of your sources also has component or HDMI connection (as mine did) you can buy a new set of cables to overcome this problem.

The last thing, that I find just plain stupid, is that the "audio out" is not controlled by the volume or mute switch. Even my 17 year old 32" TV was designed with that much foresight. So if you have it hooked to an amp and speakers for better sound quality, you have to walk across the room to turn it down on commercials (that as you know, usually jack the volume up). I'm not sure if the SPDIF Optical output is controlled by the volume switch or not.

My conclusion is that it is a good TV, but with a little thought by the designer, it could have been a great TV with little or no additional cost. Time to go back to the drawing board.

P.S. A signal strength meter would be a very nice feature to have. If I hadn't had one on my DigitalStream tuner, I could have never done the much needed, critical fine tuning on my antenna (aiming and tilting)that allowed me to pick up 3 additional over the airwave channels.

I was looking for a smaller LCD TV for the bedroom, and in two years of looking none really impressed me. Although there were several HDTV sets that were either larger or cheaper, I went with the Sony KLV-23M1 for its excellent picture/sound quality and nice design.

The resolution on this model is 1366x768, a true 16:9 ratio unlike the crop of 1280x768 sets out there. The picture is vivid and crisp, with above-average grays and blacks and bright whites. Do yourself a favor and pick up a home theater calibration disc to get the most out of your purchase, Digital Video Essentials and the Avia Calibration DVDs are the best out there.

I purchased a Sony DVP-NS975V DVD player at the same time, and results are noticeably better than the Sony DVP-NS725P it replaced. The 975 makes use of the HDMI (all-digital) input on the TV, and is an aesthetic match to the set to boot. With this particular TV there's no HDTV tuner built-in, so you'll have to purchase one seperately. Everything looks fantastic if you decide to go with one though, and in some instances this TV looks better than the plasma TV we purchased two years ago!

Sony wisely moved the speakers from the sides of the TV to the bottom, which makes for a cleaner-looking set that fits better into your home. There's a surround mode that's sounds pretty good, and there's a surprisingly good amount of bass from such a small cabinet. The speakers are clear and can be cranked quite high if you so desire.

The set upscales input to match the native resolution, and does quite a nice job of it. There's little to no motion blurring caused by fast action, a problem with older LCD TVs that didn't have a high enough pixel response time.

The design of the TV is very nice, with rounded corners, a sharp-looking front, and nice touches like a little door covering the buttons on the front that blends in with the bezel. I also liked how half the inputs were on the left-rear side of the TV and half on the right-rear side. They're hidden by removeable doors that have holes feeding into a cable guide on the back of the TV, making cable clutter less of a problem.

Some things I didn't like included the slow speed with which the TV switches inputs. You'll push the button on the remote or the TV, and it'll take a couple of seconds for the input to switch over. In addition, flipping through regular broadcast channels also takes a little bit longer than on my 27" Sony CRT TV. When you've got over 100 channels, the extra fraction of a second becomes noticeable. There's also only one component video input, which meant I had to go get a switchbox to hook up all my game consoles. Finally, the rubber on the bottom of the stand can damage some wooden finishes, my significant other was a little angry when it dulled the finish on a nice Ethan Allen chest.

So is it worth the Sony price premium? It's made in Japan, which is a plus. I've been using Sony products for 20 years, and none of the ones made in Japan have given out prematurely. The design is very nice, and the performance also rocks. Although it's not perfect, I'm still very happy with it and ended up keeping it over the four other sets I bought to try out. Recommended.

Very stylish looking. Still looks good today.

Picture quality is outstanding, stood out above the rest at the store when they were all turned on. I've have friends comment how clear the picture is when they've come to my house.

The stock sound is great for a 23". I didn't realize this until I purchased another LCD TV and its stock sound was terrible.

Overall, been a great TV and still working great.

I haven't written a review before, but in case there were others like me who were thinking about buying their first HDTV, don't be fooled by the low price. This is a great TV! The colors are magnificent, bright and bold, but best of all, true, and true throughout the screen. The contrast amazes me. The blacks are really black while somehow delivering really bold, bright colors. In automatic mode, the TV always subtly changes the picture size for watching standard broadcast or HD programs. You never have to adjust anything yourself. Pictures also look great using my regular DVD player, but my best movie experience is always watching HBOHD. The sound is great too, but I've connected my home theater sound system, and now TV watching is a breath-taking experience! Watching sports is the best experience. The wide format allows you to see more of the game, and the sharp detail allows you to see things you missed before. Hockey has always been hard to enjoy on regular TV, so if you love hockey, you have to get HD. Finally you can follow the puck, and the cameras don't have to move so much because of the wide screen. You will love watching sports on this TV! I used to do other things while watching TV, but now it commands my attention. This is a great set for watching within 10 feet, so if you have a cozy area for gathering around the set, or say in the bedroom, it's more than enough size. It only weighs about 40 lbs, so it's really light, easy for one person to get a grip on it and move it around. If you're worried about such a low price for an HDTV, don't, not with this set. It's highly rated by the editors at [...], and highly rated by me, too! I'm really loving this TV!

Vizio XVT 42'' SV420 120Hz 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I finally turned my tax refund in a month ago and received the biggest return I've ever gotten. In planning my "Harry-Carry" for the money, I decided a new HDTV was the way to go. After doing much research and starting a discussion here on Amazon for different opinions, I finally made my choice for the Vizio SV420XVT1A. It was the size I wanted, 1080p and 120Hz. I found a really good deal for it on Dell's Storefront website with a discount and free S&H; just had to pay tax (sorry Amazon, they had the best deal). I would never buy a TV online before I saw the picture of it in person, but luckily my local Sears has it on display, so I went and checked it out. They had other 120Hz TV's on display next to the Vizio which were the high-end brands like Samsung and Sony. Although their pictures were a bit better, the Vizio still had one that could compete for the price. I ordered it and received a little over a week later via freight service called CEVA. (Anyone ever hear of them?).

It was packaged pretty well in the box, just like you'd expect it to be. The easiest way to remove the TV from the box was to cut out one of the thin sides of the box and pull it out sideways. This TV replaced an 8 year old Konka tube TV (27") and was surprisingly lighter (but not by much...approx. = 56lbs.). Anyway, after setting it up in the same spot as the old TV, I connected cable, a Sony upconverting DVD player via HDMI 1, and my computer (desktop) via HDMI 2. As soon as I turned it on, the setup process came up to scan for cable channels and some other basic picture setup. (I customized all the settings for picture which I will list below) The menu itself isn't very...graphic. For some items of the menu you have to click once or twice to access further settings, but is no big deal. Actually it's kind of good this way since you can navigate the menu, change picture settings and the menu doesn't take up much screen space so you can see what the changes look like without closing out of it.

I found it a bit surprising that I WAS able to get 5 HD channels (the major networks) without a digital box. (We have a digital/HD package with our cable co., but I didn't think you could get any of the HD's without a box!) When watching channels in regular SD quality, some look better than others. It depends on what channel and what they are showing. Older TV shows and movies do not look that good (fuzzy, jittery) but are still watchable. The newer the program, the better it can look. I've watched reruns of MASH on the Hallmark channel that look nowhere near as good as they did on the old TV, but watching newer shows or movies on channels such as FX, Comedy Central & Sci-Fi look much better. It's understandable of course that SD programming will not look as good on a HDTV as a SDTV, but you're investing in the future. If you're fortunate enough to be able to receive (and afford) all HD programming, then you're already living in it! But eventually, everything will switch over to HD, and SD will go the way of 4:3 TV's! Anyway, the few HD channels I receive look GREAT. Not as good as a blu-ray, but better than an upconverted DVD. (Those 2 things I will talk about below) The picture is quite clear and colorful. I just finished watching Heroes on NBC-HD and the motion in the picture is great, improved by the 120Hz refresh rate. Speaking of the 120Hz, again, it only looks good for certain SD content. Other programming will stutter and jutter (just at some moments) with it on. This is a MINOR annoyance, so I just keep it on, disregarding the picture when it occurs. (It's too much trouble to keep turning it on and off when switching between cable and everything else, so I just leave it on all the time)

Now to the upconverted DVD viewing. So far, I have watched a few TV shows and movies and they too look quite good. Some of these TV shows are copied and shrunk to a DVD 5 disc, so the quality is not as good as the source, but it still looks better than any SD show. The first true (not copied or shrunk) DVD movie I watched was Event Horizon and the picture as well as the sound was like I'd never seen before! The picture showed details I'd never seen when watching the movie before and the sounds (for TV speakers) was pretty great too. (The sound isn't comparable to a surround sound system or anything, but it's better than my old TV!) This is also when you really start to see the 120Hz coming into play. The motion was much smoother and fluid, for example; when the movie begins and you see all the objects floating around on the ship in the zero-g environment.

Next, blu-ray. I initially tried to watch a blu-ray from my computer connection, but found this to be too problematic. First off, the display was only cloned and the monitor I use is 4:3, so the picture on the TV wasn't the best. (The black bars on the top and bottom were WAY TOO THICK!) Also, the picture did the old stutter and jutter, just like it did for some of the old movies I previewed on SD cable. On the plus side, the actual picture was pretty good though. Next I tried using my laptop, connecting it to one of the HDMI connections that reside on the right side of the TV. Once connected, the display switches from the laptop screen to the secondary display (TV). The picture was allowed to be adjusted to the full 1920x1080 which looked better than my desktop did. I popped in the Matrix and started watching. The picture was breathtaking! It had been awhile since I watched the Matrix and I saw and heard things that I never had before with stunning fluid motion. Blu-ray is definitely the way to go! The only bad thing was, I STILL got the shutter and jutter here and there throughout the film! I had to know if this would occur with a standalone BR player, so I borrowed my dad's and hooked it up. I watched some of the most action-intense scenes from the Matrix and no, the stutter and jutter was gone! Great picture, motion, sound, EVERYTHING! A standalone player is DEFINITELY the way to go. I'll have to get one (maybe as a graduation present) sometime. The current one I'm eyeing is the LG BD370. Besides getting rave reviews, it can also play many different codecs including .MKV, which I already have a few HD movies in! Just plug in a USB drive, and start watching! (From what I've read anyway, awesome!)

This TV is one of the best buys I've made that I am sure I won't regret! This TV isn't top of the line, best thing you can get out there, but if you're on a budget (like me), then this is probably the best deal you're going to get! Upconverted DVD's and especially Blu-rays are the best!

You get what you pay for doesn't apply to this tv - BangForMyBuck -
I purchased this television set from Costco yesterday for 0 to replace my Samsung TX-P3075WH in my bedroom. I already have a Sony Bravia 42" KDL-42V4100 in the living room that I paid 50 for last summer.

I was originally looking to get the new Samsung 40" LED TV instead but I decided to purchase a lower end television for the bedroom. So I settled on this VIZIO since it's over half the price cheaper and have similar features.

I gotta say that freah out of the box I'm very impress by the features of this television. It has close to the same functionality as a higher end Samsung or Sony television. One of the main reason I purchased this TV was for the 120hz frame rate and Smooth Motion feature, which I've heard a lot of positive comments on. It took me about 5 minutes to get this thing hooked up to my PS3 and Comcast receiver. I watched my blu-ray version of Tranformer on it, and I gotta say it was awesome.

I still have to calibrate the set for my bedroom room but as it stands right now, the picture quality of this set is far superior than my Samsung (granted that it's my oldest set) and just a notch below the Sony. The Smooth Motion technology is great and does what it's supposed to do. The major complaint I have about the technology though is that it makes alot of movies look "fake". I watched Terminator 2 (blu-ray version) and the technology completely destroyed the visual experience. The terminators looked like little toys gliding across the screen. (Transformers didn't have this problem) And some things were so clear that I can immediately tell they were props. Luckily though, you have the option of turning Smooth Motion off.

So here are some pros and cons that I noticed:

PROS:
Great value: You're getting alot more than you paid for compared to the major brands.

120Hz Smooth Motion (it's also a con) : Makes things "glide" across the screen. Sports show looks "amazingly" realistic. It's like you're standing right next to the player at the stadium.

Crisp Clear picture and details.

Wireless Speaker Option: I haven't used this yet, but just the thought of connecting some wireless speakers for 5.1 Digital Dolby surround is aweome.

Decent amount of menu options.

Picture-In-Picture and menu guide: This may seem to be a minor feature. But some televisions that are around this price don't have PIP or a menu guide!

Cons:

Low contrast ratio. Typical contrast ratio of 1300:1 and dyanmic of 6500:1. Dynamic ratios are generally useless. The standard contract ratio is more important and this set's has quite a low contrast ratio. That said though, my actual experience with this was actually quite good. I was suprised that it the manual said it was only 1300:1.

No media slot. Not that important to me, but looking forward, it would be pretty sweet if there was a USB port or media slot for me to just plug in my camera's memory stick to view pictures.

120Hz Smooth Motion makes older movies looks very fake and cheezy. I loved Terminator 2 and the movie looked like crap with this feature turned on. I usually leave this feature ON, and set at low. Depending on the movie, I'll temporarily turn the feature off. I would be entirely against turning this feature off permanantly. (If you're not going to use it, save some money and go buy a different set that doesn't have this feature right?)

Runs hot: This television generates more heat than both my Samsung and Sony television. (Not a big deal to me though)

Power consumption: This television takes up 300 watts of power, compared to my Samsung set that uses 170 watts (almost half) and the Sony that uses 240 watts. (Power consumption is one of the main factors that separates the name brand manufacturers from the "lower-end" players. In my opition Sony, Samsung, and Toshiba products always destroy the competitors in this area)

Overall, this is a great TV. I would highly recommend it. If price is a factor in your decision, I can say you're not giving up much in terms of quality or features if you choose this set.

Best bang for your buck! - alaskanseminole - San Antonio, Texas
As a Sony user for the last two decades I was hesitant to switch brands after my Trinitron blew out last year. I'm not any more. In fact, I have both the 42" XVT series and 37" 1080i/720p LCDs and I can't complain! Basically this is a very inexpensive 120Hz LCD (Costco Coupon 9.99); highly accurate color; plenty of picture adjustments including extensive dejudder controls; comprehensive connectivity including four HDMI inputs and a PC input. This TV simply ROCKS!

I own the Sony Bravia 52", KDL-52W4100. Although the Sony has more bells and whistles, I can barely distinguish a difference in the picture quality between the two TVs. I enjoy watching the Vizio as much as the Sony. Also, my Vizio came with the multi-device remote, and I find it easy to use. Great value and the price was right. I recently paid [...] for the Vizio 42" XVT at Costco, which also adds a free year of warranty after the manufacture's warranty expires.

This light illuminates the proper balance of red, green, or blue phosphors contained in each cell to display the proper color sequence from the light. Each pixel cell is essentially an individual microscopic florescent light bulb, receiving instruction from software contained on the rear electrostatic silicon board. Look very closely at a plasma TV and you can actually see the individual pixel cell coloration of red, green, and blue bars. You can also see the black ribs which separate each.
Whether spread across a flat-panel screen or placed in the heart of a projector, all LCD displays come from the same technological background. A matrix of thin-film transistors (TFTs) supplies voltage to liquid-crystal-filled cells sandwiched between two sheets of glass. When hit with an electrical charge, the crystals untwist to an exact degree to filter white light generated by a lamp behind the screen (for flat-panel TVs) or one projecting through a small LCD chip (for projection TVs). LCD monitors reproduce colors through a process of subtraction: They block out particular color wavelengths from the spectrum of white light until they're left with just the right color. And, it's the intensity of light permitted to pass through this liquid-crystal matrix that enables LCD televisions to display images chock-full of colors-or gradations of them.
